Profits over People
BellSouth tells New Orleans residents that they can’t have free wireless internet access anymore.
Essentially 1/3 of the city doesn’t have phone service yet. 1/3! How long ago was September? Internet access is spotty at best and also out for more than 1/3 of the city. So to combat this and make it possible for New Orleans businesses and people to communicate and operate, the CIO and Mayor Nagin opened up the city’s wireless access which normally is use by security cameras, to everyone in the city.
BellSouth has decided that they want their profits (even though 1/3 of the city can’t get a dial tone) back so they’re slowly but surely convincing the Louisiana legislature to make New Orleans shut down the only access that many people have. And it looks like the legislature is gonna agree with them.
As we’d say in these parts, “You are a bunch of asshats!”
